Barry James teaches drums and mallet percussion in the Central Florida area. The system he teaches has been used with great success all over the world; it is known as the George L. Stone drum method.  George Lawrence Stone was a renowned drum teacher in the Boston area, who wrote two famous drum method books:  “Stick Control”, and “Accents and Rebounds”.  “Stick Control” was voted No. 1 “Best Drum Method Book” in a poll of professional drummers by Modern Drummer magazine.  Mr. Stone was elected to The Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame, and is regarded as one of the most influential drum teachers of all time. When he attended Boston University School of Music, Barry had the privilege of studying for four years with Mr. Stone , who was on the faculty there. Other Drummers who studied the Stick Control method with Mr. Stone include Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Joe Morello, and Vic Firth.  Joe Morello was widely regarded as Mr. Stone’s most influential student, who published his own highly regarded drum technique books, “Master Studies 1 and 2”. While there may be many drum teachers that teach George L. Stone’s Stick Control method, only Barry James can teach the techniques as taught to him directly by Mr. Stone himself.
