ANNOUNCING
A NEW DRUM BOOK -
AVAILABLE NOW!
The system Barry James teaches has been used, with great success,
all over the world; it is known as the George Lawrence Stone drum
method. George L. Stone was a renowned drum teacher in the
Boston area, who wrote two famous drum method books: “Stick
Control,” and “Accents and Rebounds.” “Stick Control” was voted
No. 1 “Best Drum Method Book” in a poll of professional drummers
by Modern Drummer magazine.
When he attended Boston University School of Music, Barry had the
privilege of studying for four years with Mr. Stone, who was on the
faculty there.
Joe Morello was a world renowned jazz drummer, known for his
years with the Dave Brubeck Quartet. He was voted Best Jazz
Drummer 5 years in a row by Downbeat Magazine Readers Poll and
an inductee into the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame. He was
regarded as George L. Stone’s most influential student; many of
Joe’s ideas were incorporated into Stone’s book, “Accents and
Rebounds,” which Stone dedicated to Morello.
Over the years, Barry James and Joe Morello developed a friendship
that led to a collaboration between the two on the development of a
book. The concept of the book is to present modern drum rudiments
in a way that Mr. Stone himself would have taught them. Barry and
Joe discussed concepts and excercises, and worked together for four
years on the book that would come to be called “Drum Lessons With
George Lawrence Stone.”
